Joe Ashworth, played by David Leon, made an epic comeback to the ITV series sunday night.

However, fans started speculating that Joe's arrival could mean DCI Stanhope is on her way out.

Taking to X/Twitter one fan wrote: "Looks like Vera is going to get cancelled. Joe says her Landrover isn't emissions friendly, her methods out of touch and when the forensic team are all wearing Crime Scene suits she turns up in the same hat and mac she's worn to EVERY MURDER... she's for the chop (chop Kenny)."
A second added: "Maybe Joe has been brought in to ease her into retirement.......would certainly fit. Vera."

It comes after Vera fans blasted the show recently as they accused bosses of 'ripping off EastEnders'.
