VERA fans reckon they have 'figured out' Brenda Blethyn's replacement as they noticed clues that the star is leaving the show.
Joe Ashworth, played by David Leon, made an epic comeback to the ITV series sunday night.
The detective was stoked to see her old partner again, but her excitement quickly faded when Joe dropped the bomb that he was there to check out how DCI Stanhope was running things.
Joe didn't exactly make a great first impression as he started nitpicking Vera's team and criticizing how she was handling their latest murder case.
However, fans started speculating that Joe's arrival could mean DCI Stanhope is on her way out.

Many were convinced that Joe might take over as her replacement.
Taking to X/Twitter one fan wrote: "Looks like Vera is going to get cancelled. Joe says her Landrover isn't emissions friendly, her methods out of touch and when the forensic team are all wearing Crime Scene suits she turns up in the same hat and mac she's worn to EVERY MURDER... she's for the chop (chop Kenny)."
A second added: "Maybe Joe has been brought in to ease her into retirement.......would certainly fit. Vera."
A third penned: "Is he gonna be her replacement Vera."
A fourth wrote: "I feel like Joe is going to be her replacement."

It comes after Vera fans blasted the show recently as they accused bosses of 'ripping off EastEnders'.
