Alan Brazil is convinced that Manchester United will sack Erik ten Hag at the end of the season despite their recent upturn in form.

The Dutchman has been under pressure after overseeing the club's worst start to a season in decades but United have improved in recent weeks, with their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday extending their unbeaten run to six matches.

Ten Hag's future will ultimately be decided by Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has assumed control of sporting operations at Old Trafford as per the terms of his £1.25billion deal for a minority stake in the club, which moved a step closer to completion on Tuesday.

And while things have improved of late, Brazil is far from convinced about the prospect of Ten Hag staying in the job long-term, claiming that he has heard players at the club are simply "not having" the former Ajax chief.

Speaking to talkSPORT BET, Brazil said: "Unless Manchester United go on a remarkable run, I still think Erik ten Hag will be gone by the end of the season. I honestly don't think that the players are having him. There's always a chance that winning silverware, maybe the FA Cup could be enough to keep him in the job though.‌

"If they start scoring more goals and getting the fans behind them then things might change, but they've just had so many performances this season where you think, 'Oh my God, come on, you're better than this!'

"But the last few games, including that win over Aston Villa, have been a bit better so we'll see. The whispers I'm hearing are the players are not having him. They say he has no man management skills whatsoever."

Ten Hag has just 18 months remaining on the contract he signed in the summer of 2022 and refused to be drawn on whether or not negotiations with the Old Trafford hierarchy over an extension have taken place recently.

When he was asked about such talks last month, he said: "We speak about many subjects but I can’t go into detail, especially when it is so personal.

“First, the most important thing is the club. It's about the club, about the team and how we have to work to high standards to achieve our targets. It’s not about any individual person. When you're involved in top-level football, I think you know that you have to prove yourself every day - and that counts for everyone who is working for this club.

‌"We have to look to ourselves and keep working and reconstructing this club. We know we need to be better. Last season we were over-performing. In the summer we were in a very good place, nobody could expect what we achieved last season. Now we have had a downfall and we have to stop this - but I think it belongs to the project."
