SKATING legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have had their Dancing on Ice future revealed after retiring from the sport.

The Olympic athletes previously announced that they are ready to hang up the skates after half a century of performing together.

They cited ageing and losing some of the physical abilities they had in their younger days as the main reason behind retirement.

After the surprising news, many fans were left speculating that the duo would no longer be starring on Dancing on Ice.

However, the Sun can reveal the happy news that both Jayne and Christopher still plan to participate in the ITV series.

The reality show's creative director Dan Whiston shared: "I’m 100 percent grateful to Jayne and Chris because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am now.

"I feel like they groomed me for this position I do now, so I’m super grateful and they’re very close friends of mine as well. It’s bittersweet.

"I’m super, super sad they’re retiring, but at the same time I think there could be other things happening there.

"I don’t want to give it away too much but they have given so much to Dancing on Ice. I think it’s just a time to celebrate their career and what a wonderful 40 years it’s been.

"Without them there wouldn’t have been a Dancing on Ice so, for me, it’s a huge celebration.

"They’ll be continuing obviously with the show."

This will be a major relief to fans of the series, as the pair have been Head Judges on the programme since 2018.

Over the years they have both also performed, coached celebs, and choreographed skating routines for Dancing on Ice.

Torvill and Dean essentially form the backbone of the programme, and it would be a huge loss if they were to step down from their roles.

Alongside continuing to appear on the frosty series, the stars are also planning a farewell tour, where they hope to showcase their famed Bolero routine.

The dramatic performance won them a gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina.

It saw them become the highest scoring figure skaters of all time, as the legendary routine received twelve perfect 6.0s and six 5.9s.
