Fans were left devastated by the news, with some even saying they cried their eyes out when he left.

The soap star took to Instagram to let followers know that he has joined the cast of SIDDHARTHA, a new radio drama.

BBC Radio 4 is set to air the story, which is a dramatization of the novel by Herman Hesse, on February 18 at 3pm.

It follows the spiritual journey of an Indian man called Siddhartha as he searches for enlightenment.

Jaz revealed that he has been cast as 'The Enlightened One' in the radio play.

He added: "I had a blast working on this one with a whole host of talent. Shout out to @afonicasound for putting this one together."

Fans were delighted to hear the news, and took to the comments to share their excitement for his new venture.

One person gushed: "Sunday afternoon sorted! Looking forward to this Jaz."

Another agreed: "That’s amazing!"

A third joked: "Great, I look forward to it, you can come to Dogen Sangha in character next time!"

While working on EastEnders Jaz also had a side hustle as a property investor with his company JHD Homes.

The actor and businessman previously posted on his site saying: "There's no question that market right now is incredibly hot. You could argue the many reasons why but the bottom line is that finding good deals is harder than ever.

"How do you know what is a good deal or a bad deal? That's entirely up to you. Key thing is to know your criteria, your why and your level of comfort with risk."
