FORGOTTEN Chelsea star David Datro Fofana is reportedly set to join Burnley on loan.

The 21-year-old joined The Blues 12 months ago in a deal worth £8million, but has only ever made one start for the club.

According to The Athletic, Burnley have agreed a deal to sign Fofana on loan until the end of the season.

The Ivorian had been loaned out to Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin for the entire campaign, but has seen his time in Germany come to a premature end to facilitate a move to the Clarets.

And the centre-forward is set to fly into the UK tomorrow to undergo his medical with the Turf Moor outfit.

Vincent Kompany's men are looking to strengthen ahead of a tough fight to stay in the league in the second half of the season.

While Chelsea are said to consider Premier League experience to be key in developing Fofana's abilities.

There had reportedly been interest in the former Molde man from La Liga club Sevilla, but it would appear Burnley have won the race for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Burnley will cover 100 per cent of Fofana's wages during his spell with the club.

While is is understood there will be no option for the American owned club to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Fofana managed two goals and one assist in his 17 appearances for Union Berlin in the first half of the season.

Chelsea are also hoping to offload a number of players on permanent deals this month as they look re-balance their books and trim their inflated squad.
