Kym Marsh has returned to social media for the first time since her father's death was announced.

A spokesperson for the actress, 47, announced David Marsh's passing on Friday 12th January, with a statement issued on behalf of Kym's family reading: "It is with immense sadness that we confirm the passing of David Marsh.

"A much loved husband, dad, grandad, great grandad and friend to many, David passed away peacefully at home yesterday surrounded by his family. We are truly heartbroken and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time."

On Sunday, Kym took to Instagram to pay tribute to her dad with a heartwarming photo of the pair embracing. She captioned the post: "For the first time in my life….I have no words.

"I love you dad. Always and forever. Rest easy Pops. Goodnight godbless." Kym's famous pals rushed to share their support as former co-star Faye Brookes wrote: "Sending you and your family all the love beautiful lady."

Matt Goss commented: "Truly sending so much love," while actor Charlie Condou added: "Oh Kym, I’m so so sorry. He was a truly wonderful man and the most fantastic Dad. You were blessed to have him. I’m sending you so much love darling xxx."

In June 2021, Kym first shared the heartbreaking news that her father had been diagnosed with cancer. The Waterloo Road actress explained that he had put off going for a health check-up during the pandemic and by the time he did see a doctor, the disease had already spread to other parts of his body, like his pelvis and spine.

In a chat with The Sun, Kym shared: "At this stage doctors are talking about it being incurable, but it is treatable and the hope is that they may be able to extend his life - but by how much nobody really knows and he is in discomfort."

During s broadcast on Morning Live last year, Kym offered some upsetting news about her dad's health, revealing that he didn't have much time left as the cancer had spread. Her co-host Gethin Jones, 45, quizzed Kym on her father's current health as the BBC show aired in November.

Beginning the conversation, Gethin asked: "I know you've been spending quite a lot of time with your dad recently. We know Dave really well on Morning Live and the reason you've been spending time with him is because you've had some bad news, haven't you?"

Kym admitted: "Yes, Morning Live has been following dad's cancer diagnosis which was about two-and-a-half years ago I think now and his latest scan results have shown, unfortunately, that there are more cancer deposits further up his spine now. They are doing further scans to see if it's gone into any more of his bones but unfortunately they can't offer him chemotherapy."

The former Hearsay' singer went on to tell Gethin: "So they advised us to go and spend lots of time with him and make lots of memories. So that's what we've been doing, we went out on Halloween to a lights trail and he's just been enjoying spending time with his family."

In 2021, Kym took a break from hosting the BBC show Morning Live. She later shared that she had been dealing with anxiety attacks and was seeking help for her mental health due to her dad's prostate cancer diagnosis earlier in the year. Her dad even appeared on the show during Men's Health Week, encouraging men to get prostate exams as he was undergoing treatment for an advanced form of the disease.
