Who is Susan Calman?

Susan Calman is a Scottish comedian famous for her work on a series of prolific TV and radio panel shows.

She stands at four feet 11 inches tall.

The star originally followed in her parent's footsteps and received an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow and worked in law for seven years.

She used to be a corporate lawyer but was dissatisfied with her career and decided to pursue comedy instead at the age of 30.

Susan has made appearances on Radio 4, The News Quiz, Now Show, and So Wrong It's Right, among others.

She has hosted Woman's House and Listomania.

As a TV panellist, she has been part of shows like Have I Got News For You, Mock The Week, QI, Pointless Celebrities, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and Would I Lie To You.

In 2017, she competed on the 15th series of Strictly Come Dancing, reaching the 10th week before elimination.

Beyond panel shows, Susan has showcased her stand-up skills at the Edinburgh Fringe and had a minor role in the sitcom Fresh Meat.

She's been a familiar face on children's TV, presenting CBBC’s Extreme School, providing the voiceover for Disaster Chefs, and appearing as a panellist on The Dog Ate My Homework.

She has further expanded her presence as a television presenter, hosting Channel 5’s Secret Scotland and The Great British Menu on BBC Two in 2020.

Susan is also an accomplished author, with her first book, "Cheer Up Love: Adventures in Depression with the Crab of Hate," published in May 2016.

Away from her TV, she is recognised for her work in rescuing cats.

In her column called ‘Naming a pet is serious’ for Good Housekeeping in 2018, she wrote: “Over the past 20 years I’ve adopted a series of rescue cats

"I always take in the little angels with health problems or the ones that other people turn down because they’re a bit anxious or odd.

“It makes the process of finding their nomenclature even more important because they’re all so special in their own way.”

The Susan Calman website confirms that the Scottish comedian has five cats.

On her X (formerly Twitter) account, she writes: “We have 5 rescue cats. Pickle, Dr Abigail Bartlet, Olivia Pope, Daisy Fay Harper and DCI Jane Tennison.

“The Calman Home for Wayward Girls.”

Is Susan Calman married and how many children does she have?

Susan first met her wife, Lee Cormack, a fellow lawyer, in 2002.

The pair first met in 2002 and entered into a civil partnership in 2012.

The couple live in Glasgow.

Speaking about their wedding and civil partnership ceremony, Susan said: “They were two of the happiest days of my life.

"And, yes, being married does make a difference.

"I don’t like it when people say it’s just a bit of paper. Not to me it isn’t.

"And anyway, it’s something gay people fought for over many years.”

The couple do not have any children.

Susan came out as a lesbian at the age of 19 in 1993.
