Perth Museum and Art Gallery officially closed back in late 2022.

When the transformation project was first announced, Culture Perth and Kinross also revealed that the museum and art gallery would be split into two separate attractions.

Following the multi-million redevelopment project, Perth Museum will be located in Perth's former city hall.

The space has been transformed by the architecture firm Mecanoo.

Perth Museum will tell the story of Perth as Scotland's first capital.

When the museum opens, its main attraction will include a permanent exhibition of Bonnie Prince Charlie's sword.

The solid silver broadsword belonged to Bonnie Prince Charlie who was officially known as Prince Charles Edward Stuart - the grandson of James II, who was King of England in 1685.

While it was previously part of a private collection, this will be the first time the sword has been on display to the public.

A rare Jacobite wine glass will also go on display for the first time.

The glass is said to feature the Duke of Perth's family motto, "Gang warily", which translates as "Go, Carefully".

The Stone of Scone, more commonly known as the Stone of Destiny, will also be displayed at Perth Museum when it opens this spring.

While the Stone of Destiny is currently kept at Edinburgh Castle, it was previously used during the coronation of Scottish Monarchs.

The Stone of Destiny was used during King Charles' coronation last year.

Other objects of interest include a 3,000-year-old Carpow Logboat.

The museum will also feature a cafe, a gift shop and learning and event spaces.

A selection of other exhibitions and programmes are also set to run throughout the year.

Charles Kinnoull, chair of Culture Perth and Kinross told the Museum Association: "The collections held here in Perth and Kinross are recognised for their national significance and are in constant development.

"The opportunity to bring new objects such as this beautiful Jacobite glass and sword alongside loans from national partners and the existing collections and the Stone of Destiny, all within a stunning new home in the former city hall is one which I could not be more excited about."

Councillor Grant Laing, leader of Perth & Kinross Council, added: "Perth Museum will be a landmark attraction that brings Scotland’s history to life and is the culmination of our long-term cultural regeneration vision for Perth."

Set on the banks of the River Tay in the east of Scotland, Perth is a one-hour drive from Edinburgh and an hour one and twenty-minute drive from Glasgow.

Other attractions in Perth include the Black Watch Castle and Museum, Perth Concert Hall and Scone Palace.

Meanwhile, these are the four new UK attractions and holiday resorts opening this year.
