THERE are many items which are prohibited from being taken onto a flight.

Can you take e-cigs in your hand luggage?
Before you go on your flight, it's worth checking your airline's restrictions concerning e-cigarettes.
The majority of airlines allow you to have your e-cigarette in your hand luggage.
However, if you're caught using it onboard you could be banned from flying.

Smoking e-cigarettes whilst flying is strictly prohibited on most airlines.
Easyjet allows their customers to carry e-cigarettes and two spare batteries in their cabin bag.
Ryanair also allows customers to take e-cigarettes on board but has strict no-smoking policies.
British Airways allows e-cigarettes in hand baggage but states they must packaged to prevent them from being accidentally activated.
Jet2 has similar restrictions to British Airways.
Regardless of the airline, you are travelling with, you need to ensure you have followed the safety requirements for batteries and liquids.
Can you take cigarettes in your hand luggage?
Cigarettes are usually allowed in hand luggage.
However, you cannot smoke them onboard.
Smoking on a plane is completely banned and breaking this rule not only violates the airline's policies but can also result in hefty fines.
In severe cases, if you interfere with a smoke detector you might even face potential arrest.

Depending on which airline you're flying with and what country you're heading to, you may also be subject to further specific regulations on bringing cigarettes.
If you don't comply with these restrictions, your cigarettes will likely be confiscated and relevant fines incurred.
Most airlines will also allow you to carry a lighter which must be on your person during the flight.
Lighters will also need to be placed in a plastic bag for screening before you board your flight.
Matches and lighters aren't allowed in hand or checked-in baggage.
How many cigarettes can you buy at duty-free?
If you're returning to the UK, you'll be able to bring back a certain amount of cigarettes before you have to pay tax.
If you go over the allowance, you'll have to declare the goods and pay tax and duty.
The Government guidelines state the tobacco allowance is:
- 200 cigarettes
- 100 cigarillos
- 50 cigars
- 250g tobacco
- 200 sticks of tobacco for electronic heated tobacco devices
You can split the allowance.
For example, you could bring back 100 cigarettes and 25 cigars.
If you enter the EU from the UK, you can bring goods free of VAT and excise duties with you within the limits set out.
There is a higher or lower limit depending on which country you are visiting.
