SDLP councillor Adam Gannon said: "I'm very saddened to hear about the road traffic collision in Belleek.

"The loss of a life is always incredibly sad and my thoughts are with the family and all those affected."

Boa Island Road was closed in the aftermath of the collision but has now reopened.

Cops said: "A woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody at this time.

"Following the tragic death of Valeria and her unborn child, the Police Service's Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information and witnesses.

"Anyone with any dash-cam or other footage that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact detectives from the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 1723 of 19/02/24."

The Fermanagh road fatality comes after a young woman in her 20s died in a crash in Co Waterford last night.

The woman, in her 20s, was the driver and sole occupant of a car that crashed on the R685 at Quillia at Tramore at around 10.15pm last night.

Her body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford and a post-mortem examination will be arranged, gardai said.

And tributes poured in this morning for a cyclist killed in a crash in Dublin on Sunday.

Married dad-of-three John Walsh was out for a ride on his bike on the Malahide Road in Kinsealy, Dublin 17 when he was involved in a collision with a car at around 9.30am that morning.

Mr Walsh, in his 40s, was rushed to Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries but was later pronounced dead.

John's death notice on rip.ie states that he was "taken tragically and too soon, surrounded by family and friends".

Gardai earlier confirmed 29 lives have already been lost on roads in the Republic so far this year, compared to 30 for the same time period last year, with 11 deaths this month.

Heartbreaking tributes were paid to pals Michael Kelly, 25, Katie Graham, 19, and Daryl Culbert, 21, who died after a collision in Carlow town on January 31.

And Michael's mum told how the delay in getting his body out of the car will "torment me for the rest of my life".
