But Andy Farrell's side will have to do it without Johnny Sexton in their XV.

The Irish came close to reaching their first ever World Cup final last year but were thwarted by New Zealand in the semis.

Sexton had to be consoled by his son on the pitch after the defeat.

Ireland will aim to bounce back with the Six Nations, but Sexton will be watching on TV.

Why is Johnny Sexton not playing Ireland at Six Nations 2024?

Sexton retired from rugby completely after the World Cup semi-final defeat to New Zealand.

"But the overarching feeling is the pride I felt playing with such a committed and talented group," he said after his retirement.

"Leaving these players and coaches is what is making retirement so tough.

"Retirement is never an easy next step for any professional athlete. It is especially hard after the rollercoaster of emotions from the last few weeks in France.

"I've said it many times before but there's no feeling like playing in front of a home Irish crowd and that's what it felt like in Bordeaux, Nantes and in Paris on those three special Saturdays [during the World Cup].

"I want to thank my team-mates, both for Leinster and Ireland, for everything they have given to me.

"The last season was one of the most enjoyable of my career and it makes it even more special to do so with people you care about, friends who will stay a part of my life in the future."

Throughout his incredible career, Sexton played for Leinster across two stints and Racing 92 for two seasons.

He also made six appearances for the British & Irish Lions between 2013 and 2017.
