Fans of the sitcom are still obsessed with it more than 20 years on since its final episode, and were delighted to see Sir David dressed in character earlier this month.

Sir David had attended the annual two-day Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society convention in Milton Keynes.

And now the star has opened up to The Sun's TV Mag about whether the show could make a comeback.

He said: "Well, to be honest with you, we would like that to happen very much because not only did we enjoy it so much, but so did most of the British public. Because of that, we would love to do it."

But before Only Fools fans could get too excited at the prospect, he added: "I don’t think we could do another episode of Only Fools And Horses because the brains behind it, Mr John Sullivan, is unfortunately no longer with us."

Indeed John passed away in April 2011 aged 64 from pneumonia.

Meanwhile actor Roger Lloyd Pack - who played Trigger - died in January 2014, while John Challis, who played Boycie in the show, died in September 2021.

While Only Fools fans may never get to see another episode of the sitcom, Sir David will soon be back on screens alongside The Repair Shop's Jay Blades.

The two men have teamed up for their new show, David And Jay’s Touring Toolshed, which will see them visit various air shows, steam rallies, county fairs and vintage festivals around the UK.

They will meet some of the UK's most talented crafters, makers and tinkerers, as well as those who could use some help along the way.

Speaking about the new series and working with Jay, 53, Sir David said: "We share the same sense of humour and we’re both open for mickey-taking. Because we can take it, we can give it.

"I’m always having a go at him for being a fool, and he’s always having a go at me because I snore.

"We get on famously. It’s that sort of camaraderie, that ability to say something to someone and know they’re not going to take offence; they’re going to try to think of something clever to come back with. That’s an unusual gift."
