The Brazilian spearheads the London club's transfer business and is responsible for some huge names arriving at the Emirates Stadium including William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli.

And he's teased that the club are already working on the talent they want to bring through the door this summer.

Speaking on TNT Sports, he said: "To be fair there is a lot going on at the moment isn't there?

"In my role I have to really look after not only the first team, but also I have to look after the women's [team] and the academy as well.

"There are a lot of things to do, but of course we have started to plan ahead for the summer - on the recruitment - and lots of things are happening and we are really enjoying it."

But the former Arsenal player was coy about exactly who the club would be trying to sign when Rio Ferdinand pressed him on the potential arrival of a new centre-forward in the summer.

Edu explained: "I understand what the fans are asking for, but we already have our targets.

"We have planned a lot ahead of what we are going to face and I would be worries if we weren't scoring a lot of goals and if we weren't creating chances.

"But it is the opposite - I think we are creating a lot and we're scoring a lot of goals.

"The plan is every year to try and get better and I think we are in a good moment and let's see if we can keep improving and improving."

Despite a relatively vague answer from the 45-year-old, Arsenal fans have still been enthused by his comments and took to social media to share their excitement for this summer's window.

Things seem to be ticking with the current crop of players in north London too.

The Gunners took an early lead against Newcastle this evening through an own goal from Sven Botman.

Kai Havertz doubled Arsenal's lead just five minutes later with Mikel Arteta's side looking to keep pace with their title rivals Man City and Liverpool.

And a second half goals Bukayo Saka and Jakub Kiwior helped a late finish from former Gunner Joe Willock count only as a consolation goal in a 4-1 defeat for the Magpies.
