Liverpool have been warned not to turn to “divisive” Thomas Tuchel to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer.

The former Chelsea manager will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, the German giants announced on Wednesday. Bayern bosses went public with the decision after talks with Tuchel following a run of poor results and major issues within the dressing room at the Allianz Arena.

That puts Bayern on the lookout for a new boss, with Xabi Alonso, the ex-Liverpool midfielder, understood to be their No.1 target. He is much-admired at the Allianz Arena, both for the style of his Bayer side but also the substance of the man, having made a big impression during his time as a player at the club.

But that puts Die Roten on collision course with Liverpool, who themselves have made the Spaniard, currently in charge at Bayer Leverkusen - eight points clear of Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga - their No.1 choice to replace Klopp when he leaves Anfield.

Should Alonso choose Bavaria over Merseyside - if indeed he elects to leave Leverkusen - then Liverpool will have to look elsewhere. And with Champions League winner Tuchel believed to be open to an immediate return to the Premier League, he could be an option for the Anfield hotseat.

However, ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy insists he is a name that the club’s owners should avoid.

Asked if Liverpool could turn their attention to Tuchel, Murphy, speaking on talkSPORT, insisted: “No. He doesn’t fit them. He’s too divisive. He’s not a Liverpool manager. Not for me.”

In response to Tuchel’s Bayern exit, Murphy added: “It’s not a surprise to me. Let’s be honest, Bayern Munich should have lost the title to Borussia Dortmund last season – they ended up winning it on the final day.

“So things haven’t been great there for a while.”
