LINE of Duty’s Martin Compston has outlawed doing nude scenes for TV dramas — unless it is essential to the story.

The actor — DS Steve Arnott in the hit BBC police corruption series — reckons today’s shows have too many “gratuitous” sex scenes.

Martin, 39, who has regularly stripped for the screen, believes streaming giants are increasingly getting actors to bare for “titillation”.

He said: “Nakedness is a big thing that’s coming back.

“It used to be all your big dramas were for watershed so it had to be after 9pm and there were only certain things you could show.

“Streamers don’t have the problem and they have also realised the titillation value of that.

"People will tune in to see certain people naked, that’s just the way of the industry, and people have cottoned on to that.”

Scot Compston, who went naked in 2009 ransom thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed, told a podcast: “Sometimes, for me, it’s a bit gratuitous.

"If it doesn’t further the story I wouldn’t do it any more.

"I’ve done my time with it, my a**e was out in every job for about ten years.

"I’m a dad now and you have to think about that stuff.”

He added: “I had one job I was on with another actor and the guy was like, ‘Get this out, get this out’.

"We were like, ‘You could shoot all this under covers’.

"There was no particular need to see both of us naked.”
