The journalist recently joined Sky News' Breakfast programme alongside stalwart Kay Burley.

But while the 33-year-old has proven to be a hit with viewers, sickos have been sending him disgusting messages.

In a video update calling out the behaviour, Gareth told fans: "Good morning. It's four in the morning and the very vast majority of interactions on this app are lovely.

"You are all very sweet people. But, there is a tiny minority and it's exclusively men who decide it's perfectly acceptable to send extremely sexually graphic, inappropriate, unpleasant, wild, weird comments.

"I do not know what compels you to do so.

"The time is now to be better and do better. Have you not listened, have you not learned from the past few years?

"You should have improved your s*** a long time ago but you can still do it now."

He continued: "If you can't do it on your own, get some help, ask for support. If you still can't do it, get off the internet.

"I appreciate that, as a man, I get a pretty easy time of it and there are female colleagues for example and people in general who get a far, far worse time.

"Men, it is time to up your game and if not, shut the f*** up."

Gareth joined Sky News at the start of the year after 10 years working for the BBC.

Bosses introduced the journalist as well as Mhari Aurora and Wilfred Frost in a shake-up to Kay Burley's previous format.

They also extended the show by an hour to 10am to rival Good Morning Britain, BBC Breakfast and TalkTV.
