Wigan prop Liam Byrne faces a potential FIVE game ban while team-mate Tyler Dupree and St Helens’ Matty Lees have also been suspended after a fiery Good Friday derby.
Byrne must face a tribunal after the match review panel charged him with a Grade E head contact for the high tackle on Mark Percival which saw him sent off in the champions’ 12-4 loss.
That means the Ireland star could miss as many as five fixtures if found guilty. England international Dupree received a one-match penalty notice for a Grade C head contact which sidelines him for Thursday’s Super League clash at Leigh.
However, the MRP deemed there was no further action required for the separate incident that led to him being yellow-carded in that contest.
Dupree led with the forearm on Lees but the panel notes said: “Player braces for contact and initial contact is with the chest and rides up quickly to the opponent’s neck as the opponent slips prior to contact.”
Singh Gill to make history as Premier League's first Sikh-Punjabi officialEngland prop Lees, meanwhile, had been hit with a two-match penalty notice for a Grade C head contact (higher end of sanction grade) on Wigan’s Luke Thompson which went unpunished on the day.
Unless he appeals and wins, he will miss Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash at Catalans and the Challenge Cup quarter-final versus Warrington. Leeds have also fallen foul of the disciplinary with two players banned after their win at Castleford.
Captain Cameron Smith (dangerous contact) and prop Justin Sangare (head contact) have been served one-match penalty notices which sees them miss Friday’s visit from Warrington.
Warrington’s Paul Vaughan will also be sidelined for that after receiving a two-match penalty notice for a dangerous lift/throw on Catalans’ Cesar Rouge. Huddersfield’s Harvey Livett has been fined £250 for a Grade B head contact against London.
