Billie Eilish clarified she made about big artists using "wasteful" packaging amid a climate crisis, denying singling out Taylor Swift.

The Bad Guy hitmaker took aim at "the biggest artists in the world making f*****g 40 different vinyl packages" in an interview with Billboard. Swifties assumed she was talking about the Blank Space songstress, sparking a new statement from Eilish.

"Okay so it would be so awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what I said in that billboard article," she penned on Instagram. The 22-year-old said she wasn't "singling anyone out" in her candid chat about the environment.

"These are industry-wide systemic issues," she explained. "When it comes to variants, so many artists release them, including me, which ! clearly state in the article. The climate crisis is now and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better sheesh."

In her interview, Billie said: "We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it’s very important to some artists to make all sorts of different vinyl and packaging … which ups the sales and ups the numbers and gets them more money and gets them more..."

She continued: "I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is. It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right, and I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable."

"It's so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me that we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money — and it’s all your favourite artists doing that s**t," she concluded in the interview.

Even though the Oscar winning singer did not name any "big names," artists like Taylor Swift are known to create different versions of vinyls. Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) holds the record for the largest sales week on vinyl in U.S. history, according to Forbes.

Her upcoming album, Tortured Poets Department, will be releasing on April 19 with four vinyl versions. Each one will have the same 16 songs but each version will have a different bonus track and artwork.

Billie's Happier Than Ever vinyl released in 2021 and it came in eight different versions. The black versions were made of 100 percent recycled black vinyl and wrapped in shrink wrap made from sugar cane, according to Billboard. The coloured versions were also created with recycled materials. In an effort to reduce carbon emissions brought on by the music industry, REVERB's Music Decarbonization Project was also funded in part by Billie.
