Lucy Beaumont and Jon Richardson are back for another series of Meet The Richardsons, giving an insight into their marriage.
But while working with a spouse can be challenging, Lucy has assured that her and Jon are an exception as she revealed they "make a good team", during a chat with OK! Magazine.
"Jon and I make a good team. It’s a great working environment because it feels like a big group of friends", the stand-up comedian said, although she highlighted one downside to working with her other half. "It’s a shame that you can’t see the crew off camera because most of them have worked on the show from the beginning. It’s like a holiday for them."
The Kingston-Upon-Hull comedian also teased the end of Meet The Richardsons as she embarks on a fifth series of the Dave show. "This will probably be the last one, and we’re going out on a high", she stated, before teasing what's ahead: "It carries on from series four."
"I ramp up my career and Jon ramps up wanting to venture out into other things. It’s the funniest one yet, now that we’ve got to grips with this mockumentary genre – it was a bit of an experiment in the beginning."
Lucy Beaumont claims there are 10 male predators in the comedy circuitMarried comedians Lucy and Jon have grown accustomed to welcoming celebrity guests in their show and they are ready to reiterate the experience. After Kerry Katona, Johnny Vegas and Russell Howard, among many others, celebrities joining them will include Amanda Abbington, Kimberly Wyatt, Adrian Chiles, Steve Pemberton and Julian Clary, who Lucy loved sharing the spotlight with.
"Working with Julian Clary and his swearing – he’s a comedy genius", Lucy admitted, "Julian’s so understated, he’s one of them where you don’t think they’re doing a lot, but they are. We first met on Taskmaster."
Lucy and Jon met through mutual friend and fellow comedian Roisin Conaty, before dating for a total of two years and eventually walking down the aisle in April, 2015. One year after their nuptials, the pair welcomed a daughter in September, 2016, and Lucy remembered her traumatic birthing experience during a chat with The Mirror in 2021.
At the time, Lucy had been wheeled into theatre for an emergency C-section and responded to the gravity of the situation the only way she knew how - by cracking a joke.
"The nurses looked exhausted and I just thought I’d cheer them up. I think I thought I was on the Royal Variety performance or something although I can’t remember what I was saying", she recalled.
Meet The Richardsons premiered in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in late February, 2020, on Dave and has enjoyed a thorough success with viewers as both comedians star as fictionalised versions of themselves discussing their day-to-day in a mockumentary format.
