ARSENAL’s draw at Manchester City was largely seen as a positive but they are now playing catch-up in the title race and can’t afford to slip-up at home to relegation-threatened Luton.

Arsenal vs Luton Town betting preview

Arsenal were lauded for their defensive solidity at the Etihad on Sunday where they became the first team in more than two years to prevent Manchester City scoring.

However, a home game with lowly Luton represents a much different challenge.

It’s one the bookmakers expect them to pass – Mikel Arteta’s men are just 1/9 to pick up three points and return to the top of the table – but after a big physical effort at the weekend, it may not be as easy as that.

Luton have given it their all in the relegation battle and their attacking approach to that fight – they’ve now scored in 18 successive league games – may yet be rewarded given all the points deductions being handed out.

Given virtually all pre-season expectations had them rock bottom, and considering their injury problems, that’s a remarkable achievement.

Don’t expect their approach to change for a trip to another of the title contenders and the value route here looks to be to back the home win with both teams scoring.

It’s a bet which has landed time and again in the past couple of seasons at the Emirates (see below).

With goals on the agenda, we’ve also picked out a couple of big prices in the goalscorer markets – read on to check out our full selections.

Arsenal vs Luton Town key stats

  • Arsenal have scored more goals from set pieces (18) than any other Premier League side this season.
  • Both teams to score has landed in Luton’s last 10 games.
  • Since the turn of the year, only the three title contenders have a higher expected-goals figure than Luton.
  • However, the Hatters have conceded 36 goals in 15 away games – the highest such figure in the league.
  • Luton’s injury list is a long one with Chiedozie Ogbene having recently joined the likes of top scorer Elijah Adebayo on the sidelines. On loan from Arsenal, Albert Sambi Lokonga is also ineligible for this one. The Gunners are largely at full strength with long-term victim Jurrien Timber their only absentee.

Arsenal to win and both teams to score (Spreadex)

This is a bet which has featured on these pages before this season but I make no excuses for putting it up again.

Since the start of last season, 18 of the Gunners’ 25 home league victories have come this way, while Luton have scored in their last 18 league matches, including against Liverpool and Manchester City.

In short, this looks a good way of getting some value about the home win, which is just 1/9 on its own.

Back Arsenal to win and both teams to score at 7/5 with Spreadex

Gabriel Magalhaes anytime scorer (bet365)

Arsenal have scored the most Premier League goals from set plays this season, while only two sides have conceded more from such situations than Luton.

Gabriel, who has netted four times in his last 12 league appearances, therefore gets the nod in the goalscorer markets here.

The Brazilian carries great aerial threat and with Arsenal expected - by the bookies - to score at least three times, he looks good business.

Back Gabriel to score at any time at 5/1 with bet365

Tahith Chong anytime scorer (BetUK)

Due to Luton’s injury issues, Chong has been pushed further forward in recent games and he’s been rewarded by scoring in three of his last five appearances.

With leading scorer Elijah Adebayo sidelined and centre forward Carlton Morris having netted only once in the last seven, Chong certainly looks a value pick to net again at north of 10/1.
