A mum has shared her deep pain after her little boy, just two years old, was killed by two dogs who savagely mauled the toddler after he mistakenly wandered into their yard.

The sad incident happened on March 1 in New Hope, Alabama. Mark Alan got into his neighbour's yard, where the dogs were kept. The neighbour's Husky and a German Shepherd attacked the little boy. The dogs' owner, Ricky Clark, said the animals were taken by animal control and are due to be returned in 10 days. He was shocked because he said the dogs had never been a threat before.

The boy's mum, Kayla Partain, told everyone about her sadness on Facebook. She said that no one is "to blame" for the "tragic accident" and went on to write an emotional remembrance for her son.

"Last night our world was completely shattered. I lost my youngest child, my mini-me, my Mark Alan. The hurt is unreal. I don’t even feel like I’m living in reality. My children’s hearts are so broken. I’d like to thank everyone that has messaged, prayed, or sent kind words," wrote Kayla.

"I’ve spoken with all of the police and investigators. There will be a full investigation but it looks as if this was just a very tragic accident with no one to be held at fault. My baby will be taken for a full autopsy and then released next week to New Hope Funeral Home for arrangements to be made. Please keep us in your thoughts as I know this will never get easier."

"I appreciate New Hope Fire Department, New Hope Police Department, Owens Cross Roads Police, and Madison Co Sheriff’s Dept for coming to help," she added.

The mum also posted about Mark's brother Cole, who she says misses his sibling and constantly asks about him. "Cole has asked about him several times a day. Either just repeating his name or asking where he is," she wrote.

"It breaks my heart so bad. It sends the entire house down a spiral of emotions every single time."

The neighbour, Clark, told Waaytv he found out about the attack when the boy's dad started banging on the door after he heard a blood-curdling scream.

"He was banging on the door real hard, and he said, ‘It’s my son! It’s my son! I think he might be dead!’ ” Clark said. “I couldn’t believe it because my dogs ain’t never growled or barked at nobody or nothing. If I even had a clue that those dogs were going to hurt anybody, I wouldn’t have had them,” the dog owner said.

The neighbour theorised that the dogs had been trying to protect the child from a brown bulldog running through the neighbourhood.

“[Mark] might’ve opened the gate, and that other dog might’ve come in here with him, and then they might’ve all went at it, and he might’ve been right in the middle of it,” said Clark.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
