Jade Thirlwall's first solo single makes a savage swipe at music mogul Simon Cowell, according to reports.

The Little Mix star, 31, is gearing up to release her new music after the band announced their hiatus in 2021. Jade shot to fame with the girl group alongside Leigh-Anne, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson when they got together on the X Factor in 2011 before they disbanded following the departure of Jesy in 2020.

The group switched from Simon Cowell's label Syco to RCA during the recording of their fifth album LM5 following a reported falling out with the father-of-one, and now Jade's debut single, Angel Of My Dreams, is said to reference the feud.

The eagerly-waited track's lyrics include the line: "Sold my soul to a Syco" in reference to Simon's former record label, according to The Sun. The video is also said to depict Jade as a youngster trying to find fame, along with a mysterious man smoking a cigar who controls the music industry.

A representative for Syco told the Mirror: "The entire team who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes with Little Mix to help make the group a success would continue to wish them all solo success."

However, the paper also reports that in 2020, Jade claimed Little Mix leaving Simon's Syco record label "f****d over" the group. Asked why fans didn’t see much female empowerment in their music videos, she added: “We did a little bit but we had a switch of labels during the LM5 process and that really f***ed us over. It was harder to put all our creativity out there in the way we would have liked."

At the time, Simon insisted he "never fell out" with the group and that tensions between himself and Little Mix's management, Modest Management, led to an "embarrassing row" over a songwriting credit for their new track Woman Like Me. The music mogul also branded the girls "the hardest working bunch" he has ever worked with.

When contacted by the Mirror for comment on this story, a representative for Syco said: “The entire team who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes with Little Mix to help make the group a success would continue to wish them all solo success.”

In December 2020, Little Mix fans were shocked to find out Jesy had decided to quit the group. Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne all sought therapy following the news, according to Leigh-Anne, after the departure sparked bitter online wars between fans and reports of infighting between the band's members. Leigh-Anne has admitted: “It was a complex and painful thing to come to terms with. We all felt it, that pain and sadness. The whole thing felt like a weird break-up, and I wasn’t prepared for it.“

Speaking candidly in her autobiography Believe, she added: “I wasn’t prepared for the intensity of those emotions. The whole thing was abrupt and sad and then it was messy, which made it even more painful.”

A month before her exit, Jesy sparked concern from fans after she pulled out of the live final of their BBC contest show Little Mix: The Search. She cited mental health struggles when announcing her departure, posting on Instagram: “The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard. There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy.”

The Mirror has contacted reps for Jade for comment on this story.
