Kate Garraway has shared she is filming a new TV series after revealing her eye-watering debt following husband Derek Draper’s death.
The 56-year-old Good Morning Britain host took to Instagram to tell fans about her new project, but was careful not to give away too many details – only saying it is abroad and she can say more in September, which could be when the new show airs.
In what could be a clue, Kate posted a snap of some orchids and wrote: “Just landed back home after an amazing week filming – meeting some truly inspirational people (can reveal all in September). Every flight that lands safely is a good flight by me! But this was exceptional. Despite storms internationally and delays the staff were calm and kind and managed to look as fresh as these flowers – even on landing. I am more resembling pot pouri but feel great!!! Thanks @emirates #itsthelittlebigthings #kind #gratitude #pureclass.”
Fans were quick to comment underneath with messages of support, with one writing: “Can’t wait to hear roll on September x.” A second wrote: “Welcome home Kate! I hate flying too so know exactly how you feel. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.” A third commented: “My favourite flowers, Singapore Orchids. How lovely x.” A fourth said: “Stay strong Kate, you are doing so well (on the outside anyway).” While a fifth added: “Big hugs Kate xx.”
Kate recently shared she felt “ashamed” at being £800,000 in debt after the cost of caring for Derek before he died. He passed away in January at the age of 56 following a long battle with Covid and then a heart attack.

I have an incredible job that I love, that's very well paid. I'm not a carer, travelling miles, paying their own transport to go and help somebody for minimum wage. I'm somebody who is very well paid and so I just feel ashamed that I couldn't make it work."
Speaking before former political advisor Derek passed away, explained: “Derek’s care costs more than my salary for my TV work, and that’s before you’ve paid for a mortgage, before you’ve paid for any household bills, before you’ve paid for kids – so, we are at a crunch point. I am in debt and I can’t earn enough money to cover my debt because I am managing Derek’s care. I can’t even use the money I do have to support Derek’s recovery because it’s going on the basics all the time. I’m not going to pretend by the way that I am poorly paid, I have an incredible job that is well paid, but it’s not enough.”
