Gemma Collins has revealed she won't be wearing her dazzling engagement ring - and you probably shouldn't either.

The Only Way Is Essex star dished all the details of her luxury holiday to the Maldives, where partner Rami Hawash proposed on a private beach. The celeb couple hope to tie the knot in 2026, and we know it's going to be nothing short of fabulous.

Rami purchased the diamond engagement ring from Hatton Garden Jeweller - the same place that designed Gemma's mum's ring. However, the reality TV star says she won't be wearing the 'huge' rock every day. In an interview with the Mirror and OK! Magazine, she said: "It's one of a kind. It's huge and set in platinum, but truthfully I don't think I'll wear it every day. It's so precious that I'll get a replica made and only bring it out on special occasions."

Nilesh Rakholida, a jewellery expert and founder of Abelini, agrees with Gemma and says purchasing a cheaper alternative is a good idea - especially if you're travelling. "When travelling with anything of value, it's always worth doing research on the safety of your holiday destination, as taking jewellery on holiday will always carry some risk," he said.

"If your destination is known for pickpockets, or your instinct is to not wear your jewellery out, then it's recommended to keep these pieces secure in your hotel safe." The expert says those heading on holiday should also consider 'swapping' their ring for a 'cheaper alternative' to keep their precious diamond safe.

However, if you're determined to hold onto the real thing wherever you go - there are some simple tips you should follow. "Make sure to keep your jewellery out of direct sunlight as this can bleach and damage delicate jewellery," Rakholia added. "For example, silver tarnishes when exposed to direct sunlight and topaz, opals, and amethyst can fade or change colour when exposed to heat from the sun."

The 'most secure' place to store your jewellery is in a box that has a 'divided section'. But, the expert warns you should never keep diamonds in the same box as other jewellery as diamonds can 'easily scratch another diamond when in contact with each other'.

When it comes to nighttime, the expert says do not sleep with your ring on - as this causes it to lose sleep over time. You might also catch the diamond on your hair on the duvets which can 'damage the pongs and loosen the diamonds'.

Lastly, if you're spending a week in the pool - it's probably best to take your ring off. "Saltwater, chlorine and chemicals from soap and shampoo can all damage your jewellery, especially metals, pearls and gems," Rakholia states. "Pearls soften when soaked in water while chlorine damages and discolours metals, and deteriorates the polish of gemstones. Water also causes your fingers to shrink, which makes it easy for jewellery to slip off and get lost."
