When Kate and William finally tied the knot after a decade of dating, the world watched the royal wedding eagerly and it went down in history as a fairytale occasion.

Every detail of the day was carefully accounted for, from the stunning custom bridal dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen all the way to the flowers, even the minutiae were expertly planned. King Charles - then the Prince of Wales - himself even made a big contribution to the day, by selecting something that helped elevate the Westminster Abbey ceremony and make it even more romantic and memorable.

The sweet contribution made to Prince William and Princess Kate's big day was helping select some of the music that would play during the service. Charles, a passionate patron of the arts had more than a few selections up his sleeve to help take the day up a notch, per the Daily Mail.

"I love trying to organise some interesting, I hope, pieces of music for certain occasions, particularly for weddings if people want," Charles told Classic FM, "I know my eldest son was quite understanding and was perfectly happy for me to suggest a few pieces for their wedding".

Kate and William's wedding began with organ music as people entered and before the service proper had begun - including pieces by Bach and Elgar. This was followed by orchestral pieces, two of which were a direct nod to Charles and Camilla and their own romance. "Three of these pieces Farewell to Stromness, Touch Her Soft Lips and Part and Romance for String Orchestra Op. 11 were played at the Service of Prayer and Dedication for The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2005. The Couple specifically chose these pieces for that reason," the palace explained at the time.

Charles' passion for music and the arts is well known - and during his tenure as Prince of Wales he reinstated the position of Official Harpist back in 2000, nodding to the traditional importance of the instrument to Wales.

Charles revealed to Classic FM that his love of classical music was instilled in him at a very young age by his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. "My grandmother used to play quite a bit of music, so I would hear something there. But I suspect the first time I really became aware of it was being taken by my grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, to Covent Garden aged seven, I think."
