Paloma Faith candidly admitted her 'heartbreak will be forever' after splitting from her husband of five years.
Paloma has written many chart-topping singles about her love life - but her new album is a 'different type of heartbreak'. The singer, 42, separated from her ex-husband, French artist Leyman Lahcine, in 2022 after nearly a decade together. They married in 2017 but five years later, Paloma confirmed they'd parted ways.
During that time, she described the year as being 's**t' and called herself a 'broken woman'. Now, Paloma has opened up about her divorce and co-parenting. On Jamie Laing's new podcast, Great Company, the mum-of-two shared how her album, The Glorification of Sadness, addresses her 'trauma' and ongoing heartache.
Paloma said having two children together is what makes this a "different type of heartbreak album". She explained: "Because the heartbreak will be forever and the navigation of our relationship changing shape will be forever, probably till we die. You can't really let go of somebody you've got kids with."
She continued: "Because you look at your kids and you see that person in your kids. Or they come back from visiting them - your partner/ex-partner - and they're doing their mannerisms or they've got opinions that you don't agree with."
Made in Chelsea star Ruby Adler dating drug dealer son of ex VIP dominatrixPaloma added: "It's even harder, I think in a way, because we really liked each other a lot. We're really close and we still love each other, and that makes it confusing. That's really sad. So it's sort of heartbreaking every time we see each other. It's just very raw because of the kids."
It's not the first time Paloma has opened up about their separation. In December, she confessed to feeling 'alone' at times on ITV's Lorraine. She said: "[This is the] first time I'm promoting music about an experience I'm still in. I'm not really doing much acting just literally on set crying, 'Have I done the right thing'."
In 2018, Paloma admitted to stalking Leyman's ex-girlfriend on social media when she released her album, The Architect (Zeitgeist Edition). While chatting on This Morning, she recalled how she would sit in a dark room and scroll through the ex's social media when she was breastfeeding.
She said: "I got fanatical. It's called Your Ex this song and it's all about the imaginary world that she's so amazing and why did you leave her. So it's quite feminist because it's very, like, 'Oh God she's beautiful and intelligent'. It went from obsession to actual love. I think I loved her."
Before Leyman, Paloma married New Zealand chef Rian Haynes in 2005. They separated after just eight months and divorced in 2009. She later spoke highly of their marriage and blamed the breakdown of the whirlwind relationship on their young age.
"It was just a young, frivolous thing. We were in our early twenties and we did something quickly and realised it was a mistake. But we're still close," she said. "I am still friends with him. All my other relationships were the ones that screwed me up, not that one."
