A “beautiful” schoolgirl found dead on a beach died after suffering serious injuries in a fall, an inquest heard.
Freya Caley, 16, was found on Saltburn beach in North Yorkshire last June when her body was recovered from the sea. An inquest was told Freya had been out socialising with friends in Saltburn after school prior to her tragic death.
Arrangements had been made to pick her up but she wasn't there to be collected. A post-mortem examination found her head and neck injuries were consistent with Freya falling from height, Teesside Live reported.
Assistant coroner Karin Walsh said Freya had alcohol in her system but there was no specific evidence she had intended to end her life. The coroner told Freya's family she could not assume the circumstances surrounding her death and a short-form conclusion would not be appropriate.
Recording a narrative conclusion, the coroner said: "Freya has died as a result of a fall from height. Obviously the circumstances which resulted in that fall I can't be certain of."

Last year Freya's devastated family paid tribute to her as a 'beautiful' daughter and a 'treasured child.' They said: "We are truly devastated to announce the passing of our beautiful daughter Freya 'Boo'.
“It is not possible to describe the pain and loss we as a family feel. We take so much comfort in knowing how loved Freya was by so many.
“We will never overcome the loss of our treasured child but we will strive to carry her memory forward and celebrate Freya as life continues for us. We love and miss you Boo but we know you are always with us in our hearts, we will never truly lose you xxxx.”
