A Coronation Street cast member recalled a "supernatural experience" that she's said to have been present for on the night that her grandmother passed away some years ago.

Samia Longchambon, 41 - who is best known for having played Maria Connor on the ITV soap opera since 2000 - once spoke about the experience in an interview. She said it was "the strangest thing" but added that it was "comforting".

The actor previously shared that some ornaments "suddenly started moving" on the evening that her grandmother died. She said that her own mother, Patsy, felt that the incident some years ago was Samia's grandmother "saying goodbye".

Cooking with the Stars winner Samia opened up about the experience in an interview with My Weekly magazine, as reported by the Daily Star earlier this week. She recalled having been at home with her parents on the night that her grandmother, whom she called "nanna" and "nan," died.

She said: "We had some heavy china ornaments on the mantlepiece and they suddenly started moving." Samia said the ornaments, bought by her mother whilst in the company of her grandmother, hadn't done that "before or since".

Further discussing the incident, Samia said about her own mother: "I remember her saying 'bye, mum,' thinking it was my nanna saying goodbye." She went on to describe it as "the strangest thing," adding: "But we found it comforting."

Samia is understood to have paid tribute to her maternal grandmother in a post marking International Women's Day in 2020. Alongside a throwback photo of them, she wrote on Instagram at the time: "Happy #internationalwomensday. This is a [throwback] of me with my beloved Nan Helen. She was THE most inspiring woman I've ever known."

She further commented: "She raised 7 (yes 7!) girls whilst holding down two jobs, didn't drive so had to carry her shopping home every day, never once had a holiday or much money come to that but she never complained."

Paying tribute further, Samia went on to described her late relative as the "kindest" and "strongest" grandmother she could have had. She told her followers on the platform: "She was the strongest, kindest, hard working, loving and patient, mother and grandmother we could have ever had!"

The former Dancing on Ice contestant concluded: "I still miss her like crazy. I wish so much that she had lived to see my kids. I'll be making hotpot instead of a roast dinner today in honour of my Nan, just the way she used to make it."

Samia has previously paid tribute to her late father, Joseph, who passed away in 2009, too. Reflecting on the loss on his birthday in 2017, she told fans: "Feeling sadness that he's not here with me but so grateful for the life he gave me."
