The agent of Viktor Gyokeres has revealed his client would find it "difficult" to stay at Sporting Lisbon beyond the summer if Ruben Amorim is lured to the Premier League.

Both Amorim, 39, and Gyokeres, 25, have been heavily linked with English clubs over recent months after excelling in Portugal this season, with Sporting currently on course to win the Primeira Liga for a second time under Amorim.

The highly-rated Portuguese coach has emerged as the standout candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in recent weeks - and with an approach now anticipated, Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has hinted that the striker would likely follow Amorim if he leaves Lisbon in the coming months.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Cetinkaya admitted: “Yes, it will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting. Because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben. The day we met, I said to Ruben: ‘Here’s my boy, he came to Sporting because of you’.

“Of course, it’s an honour for any player to be able to play in the Champions League. Viktor is no exception in that respect, but there are other important things and Ruben Amorim is one of them. If he leaves, it will be more difficult for Viktor to continue.”

Gyokeres has been in scintillating form since joining Sporting from Coventry City last summer and is believed to be on the radar of a host of Europe's elite clubs. Arsenal are one of Gyokeres' suitors after watching the Sweden international plunder 36 goals already this term.

It's been widely reported that Gyokeres' contract contains a €100million (£86m) release clause, with Sporting unlikely to do business for anything less given his superb form.

Regardless of whether they win the title or not, Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new striker after keeping their powder dry in January and Gyokeres is of interest.

Amorim moving to Liverpool would seemingly enhance their prospects of snaring one of Europe's most in-form strikers, however, the Gunners are believed to have several targets ahead of the summer transfer window, including Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.

Arsenal and Liverpool are currently locked in a three-way battle for the Premier League title with Manchester City. The Gunners are currently top of the table and ahead of Liverpool on goal difference alone with just seven games remaining.
