A horrifying video of OJ Simpson pretending to stab comedian Ruby Wax in a sick prank has resurfaced in the wake of his death.

The late NFL star, who died at the age of 76 on Thursday, joined Ruby for a BBC interview in 1998. Ruby described him as "the most complicated character on earth" and admitted she was "genuinely surprised" as he pretended to stab her after she asked if he was responsible for the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

"After we finished filming, Simpson said to me that he has a surprise for me - and I genuinely was surprised," Ruby said to the cameras. "I think it was his idea of a joke."

In the clip, OJ then pretended to stab Ruby with a banana. He made screeching noises as he smiled widely. Ruby reflected on the interview back in 2021 and admitted it had been a "psychological midfield".

Speaking in the BBC show When Ruby Met, she said the horrifying stabbing prank happened after the interview. "I did a piece to camera saying 'I've been fixed up and I don't know who my date is going to be' and I'd open to door and it would be him," Ruby explained.

She continued: "But when he was out there, all the trays were out there and he was looking for a knife, to fool me when the door was open but there was no knife so he grabbed a banana." Ruby interviewed Simpson after he was acquitted in 1994 of the murder of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

The TV host admitted she thought she could get OJ to admit to the killings. "I thought I could bust him. [I thought] he'd say on air 'Yes he did it', and I'd get him in jail. So I was being public defender," she explained.

OJ was not convicted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. However, in February 1997, a civil jury found Simpson liable for the wrongful deaths of Nicole and Ron.

The jury awarded significant damages to the families of the victims: $8.5million (£6.7million) to the estate of Goldman and $25million (£19.9million) to Nicole Brown Simpson's estate. OJ later served nine years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in 2008.
