A 23-year-old TikTok star who was left fighting for her life after a horror hit and run crash has miraculously come off the ventilator for the first time in two months after doctors gave her a two per cent chance of surviving.
Camryn Herriage from Dallas, Texas was severely injured in a crash in February which killed her friend, 22-year-old Sarah House, and injured five people. Camryn was in a vehicle that was waiting at a red light when a Ford pickup truck smashed into them, causing a chain reaction. It is alleged the woman driving the pickup was "extremely intoxicated".
Until last week, Camryn had been on a ventilator since the crash, for nearly two months. The situation was so dire that Shirley Campanello, Camryn's mum, said she was preparing for the worst. But Camryn overcame the odds.

Shirley said she thought the worst had happened when Camryn was wheeled into surgery that was supposed to take six hours but the doctors came out after 90 minutes. Speaking to Fox News, Shirley said: "I knew she was gone. I just knew it because he (the doctor) was out too fast ... but it was good news, not bad."

Shirley continued: "Ninety-eight percent of people wouldn't have made it, but she did." Camryn has not yet found out that her friend Sarah did not make it. Friends visit Camryn in hospital and Shirley says her daughter wonders why Sarah isn't with them.
Shirley added that she feels like she "sees the doubt" in Camryn's eyes but she also feels like "Sarah is pushing her along" through her intense recovery journey. Camryn still has a tube down her throat at the moment to help her breath. Doctors have also said they aren't sure the about the extent of her brain damage yet.
It might be that Camryn has to relearn simple motions, but her family say they are hopeful she will one day be able to come home. Shirley said: "We were told by several people this is the best we could do. They were pretty set that she would be dependent on a ventilator. It was hope. That was all we had."
Camryn is expected to spend at least another two months in hospital before being moved to a rehab centre to continue with her recovery. The woman driving the pickup truck was later identified as 27-year-old Carmen Guerrero. It's claimed she was "intoxicated" while driving, with witnesses saying she was "extremely intoxicated" according to the arrest warrant affadivt. Bystanders say they saw Guerrero flee the scene on foot after the crash.
Guerrero was arrested 11 days after the crash happened when police found her wallet in the truck. She is currently being held in Dallas County jail and is facing a number of charges, including manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Sarah has been remembered as a "bright spirit" who had "infectious laughter" and a GoFundMe appeal that was set up when she died has raised more than $36,000. Speaking about her last month, Sara's loved ones said: "Sara was known for her compassionate nature and her unwavering desire to make everyone around her happy. Her kindness and caring demeanour touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her."
