The popular TV host used his opening monologue at the prestigious awards ceremony to deliver a series designed to shock gags including about Robert Downey Jr's manhood and his past drug addiction. Poor Things star Emma Stone also appeared to be upset by the string of misplaced puns.

Jimmy said: "And Robert Downey Jr., one of the highest points of his career. But Robert has been," Robert then pointed to his face and Jimmy added: "Was that too on the nose or a drug motion you made? But look at him, he's so handsome, so talented, he's won every award there is to win. Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular penis?"

Jimmy then went on to ruffle Emma's feathers by poking fun at her performance in Poor Things and referencing the explicit sex scenes saying: "Those were all the parts of Poor Things that we’re allowed to show on TV."
As the camera panned to Emma she was seen making an extremely dissatisfied face with many speculating that she called him a "p****." Further referencing Robert's difficult past Jimmy said: "20 years ago, Robert played the villain, and correct me if I have this wrong, in a movie where Tim Allen turns into a dog, right? And if you ever decide to remake that film, I have just the guy to play Tim Allen."
Robert famously had a period were he was imprisoned in 1999 as he struggled to overcome addiction issues. The highly talented star's problems first began in 1996 when he was pulled over by police for speeding and found to be in possession of heroin, cocaine and an unloaded .357 caliber Magnum gun.
A year later Robert missed a court-ordered drug test leading to him spending nearly four months in the Los Angeles County jail. He then missed another drug test which subsequently led to him being sentenced to three years in prison in 1999. He was released after serving 15 months in state prison in Corcoran, California.
Following that release he was then arrested again during Thanksgiving weekend for being under the influence of drugs and alleged cocaine and Valium possession. While the valium charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, Robert then pleaded no contest to the rest of the charges managing to avoid further jail time.
In 2001 distressing scenes saw Robert found walking barefoot around Culver City, Los Angeles leading to him again being arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs. However, after several years of arrests, rehab, relapses and well-publicised troubles Robert eventually recovered and became one of the most sought-after names in Hollywood and a fan-favourite star.
