Ex president Donald Trump shared the stage with his glamourous staffer Margo Martin as the first day of his hush money criminal trial started yesterday.

The 28-year-old deputy communications chief, who has been likened to Trump's wife Melania, was confident as she entered the New York courtroom with Trump, wearing a black trouser suit. She watched on in the courtroom where more than 50 out of the 96 possible jurors in the trial were excused as they admitted they couldn't be impartial.

Trump and Margo attended the Manhattan court on Monday for jury selection. Trump has been accused of hiding payments to porn star Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair. Yesterday marked the first day of the trial and the first time a former president has ever faced a criminal trial.

But while eyes are on Trump as he attends the trial, Margo is starting to build a following in her own right as she has amassed tens of thousands of followers on social media. The communications guru shares all the perks of working with a prominent political figure with her followers, including her lavish lifestyle and the trips she gets to make. Margo is often spotted attending various events with Trump, including a number of parties at his Florida Mar-a-Lago home.

Sharing regular updates to her 29,000 Instagram followers, Margo is often pictured eating in top restaurants, hanging out in celebrity hotspots and jetting off on glamourous holidays, flying on Trump's private plane. She also posts about enjoying days by the sea at Palm Beach in Florida, where it seems like she lives when she's not travelling. Her recent trips include visiting India, Ireland and Scotland.

The 28-year-old has also made a number of celebrity friends, including former reality star Savannah Chrisley, Brooke Nix, Tiffany Trump, and actress Caroline Sunshine. She often gets invited to A-list events, and has recently been spotted at the Superbowl in Las Vegas, the Daytona 500, the US Open, and a number of UFC fights, to name a few. Margo enjoys a lot of different sports, also spending her time on horse riding and golf, the latter passion being one she shares with Trump.

Margo first shot into the limelight last year when a reporter actually mistook her for Melania when she went into the United States Courthouse in Miami for Trump's arraignment in another case. John Roberts, Fox News anchor, shared a clip of Margo walking into the court, saying beforehand: "We have some video that we want to play out here, Melania Trump entering the courthouse just a short time ago."

But DailyMail.com had reported that Melania was in New York and had been seen exiting Trump Tower while that case was going on so it couldn't have been her. Mr Roberts later apologised that he had made a mistake, saying "apparently that was not Melania". He said: "A day like today with so many comings and goings, it's easy from a distance to mistake two people."

Margo, who is originally from Oklahoma, previously held the role of deputy director of communications for Trump's Save America PAC, which mainly focused on sending emails to supporter and organising Trump's rallies around the country. While Trump was in office, Margo worked as his press assistant and she was the communications aide who gave the final press lid for the Trump administration. She was one of the few people who remained with Trump beyond his time in the White House and is now a key part of his team.

A jury made up of 12 New York residents will decide Trump's fate in the trial and they will be chosen from a pool of hundreds of people. The process could take up to two weeks.
