Netflix confirmed last Octobery that the third instalment of the British teen drama is in production, exactly two months after the second series premiered to rave reviews from both viewers and critics alike. The US streaming platform took to Twitter to share the news that season three was in the pipeline, posting a photo of Alice Oseman, the author of the LGBTQ+ webcomic for young adults that inspired Heartstopper, holding a clapperboard with the show's title.

Eagle eyed fans were also quick to spot that the dumbslate featured an illustration of protagonist Charlie Spring [Joe Locke] and his boyfriend Nick Nelson [Kit Connor], as well as four rusty leaves in the caption. The post comes a year after Oseman told fans to "watch this space!" following the positive reaction to the show's first series. We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons," she said via a Netflix press release.

It didn't take long for fans to share their reactions to Netflix's teaser, with many taking to the comment section to express their excitement. "Can't wait," one person wrote, while another gushed, "Omg!!! I can't cope!!!"

Others appear to already be thinking ahead, tagging Netflix and Alice Oseman to inquire about the four autumn leaves included in the post's caption. "Anyone else notice the 4 in the announcement? Do you have something else to tell us?" one person asked, while another said, "Why the 4 leaves ? Are we gonna get a season 4?!"
