Who is Romesh Ranganathan?

Romesh Ranganathan, born March 27, 1978, is an English comedian, presenter, and actor, who is best known for fronting series such as A League of Their Own and The Weakest Link.

Prior to finding fame, Romesh originally worked as a maths teacher and was employed at an airline caterers.

Discussing his former career path on the Apple podcast Headstrong in 2021, Romesh said: ‘’I was working for an airline caterers and it was a really stressful job and I wasn’t really enjoying it.

‘’I remember one day I was doing something and I was working towards a really tight deadline.

"I felt really stressed and went to the toilet and sat in one of the cubicles and I started crying.

“Then I finished crying and I came back and sat at my desk and felt loads better.

"I pressed a reset button on my stress. Once every few weeks I’d go to the toilet and have a cry.

“Then I realised, ‘This is probably not viable, in the long term, to live like this’.”

 

After going into teaching he realised comedy was his true calling.

In 2016, the comedian embarked on his debut solo tour selling over 100,000 tickets, and was presented with the Ents24 Hardest Working Comedian Of The Year award.

Since then Romesh has appeared on an array of comedy panel shows in the UK and has even taken his career stateside.

In 2018, the star embarked on a career in America with the launch of the series Just Another Immigrant on Showtime.

While in the US, Romesh also appeared on the James Corden Late Late Show, as well as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Following his stateside stint, the comedian returned to America once more in 2023, with a sold-out show held at the iconic New York Town Hall.

In addition to this, Romesh co-hosts the podcast, Wolf And Owl, alongside fellow funny man Tom Davis, and has been honoured to support several of his comedy heroes including, Seann Walsh and Ricky Gervais.

Thanks to his career both on stage and on screen, Romesh is continuing to enjoy success within the world of comedy, with 2024 marking the year that the comedian embarked on his Hustle tour - his biggest gig to date which includes two nights at London’s O2 Arena.

Romesh’s last tour, which was titled The Cynic's Mixtape, sold out across the UK, including 14 nights at London’s Eventim Apollo, culminating in a taping in his hometown of Crawley - which was later released as a special on Netflix in 2022.

Romesh certainly keeps himself busy and has said of his career path in comedy: “I am actually inherently very lazy but I do really like what I do.”

He has fronted Asian Provocateur and A League of Their Own, and has appeared in titles such as The Misadventures Of Romesh Ranganathan, The Ranganation, Rob & Romesh Vs with pal Rob Beckett, and the BBC game show The Weakest Link.

Other TV shows Romesh has appeared in include Avoidance, DNA Journey, Have I Got News for You, Taskmaster, Romantic Getaway, King Gary, Judge Romesh, and The Reluctant Landlord.

He has also performed his stand-up routine on Live At The Apollo, appeared as a guest on The Last Leg and QI, and has starred on Comic Relief for its Red Nose Day appeal.

Is Romesh married and does he have children?

Romesh is married to wife Leesa.

According to reports, the pair met when they were both working at a secondary school in Crawley, where Romesh taught maths and Leesa worked in the drama department.

However, Romesh's wife prefers to keep out of the spotlight, so not much more is known about her.

Although the couple do not often open up about their personal life, Romesh has previously referenced his wife in his stand-up material.

In an interview with the Guardian, he explained: "People often ask me if she minds me talking about her, but she genuinely sees it all as just comedy, and therefore meaningless."

The couple are the proud parents to three sons - Alex, Theo and Charlie.

According to his annual accounts in 2023, Romesh has an estimated fortune of  £2.4million, with assets in his company Vetty previously listed at that figure.
