Ashanti confirms pregnancy and shares she is expecting first child with Nelly

Ashanti announced that she is expecting with her boyfriend and rapper, Nelly.

The singer made the announcement on Instagram on Wednesday. Ashanti shared the news in a video, which showed the singer getting ready to hit the stage to perform. Someone asks her how much time she needs to get ready and when her mother, Tina Douglas, checks in again, Ashanti comes out from behind the curtain and said: "I'm gonna need about nine months."

This will be Ashanti's first child with Nelly and the two recently made headlines when they rekindled their relationship in 2023. Fans of the singer headed to comment section with excitement and congratulated Ashanti.

To some, the announcement was just a confirmation since many fans suspected that she was pregnant after the two first hinted they were expecting in December. A video of the two from Nelly's 11th Black and White Ball went viral and showed Nelly placing his hand on Ashanti's stomach and she makes a heart over it. The two then laughed and rushed off the stage.

In Ashanti's video, one person wrote: "We all knew but it hits different when it's confirmed. Congratulations Ashanti & @nelly." Another person wrote: "Congratulations we knew tho [three laughing emojis]." A third person wrote: "We been waiting for the announcement!!!!! [laughing emoji] Lets gooooooo! Congrats yallllll!"

Ashanti and Nelly rekindled their relationship after dating for a decade and calling it quits in 2013. She gave fans a glimpse into their relationship at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. While walking the carpet, she held a purse that featured a picture of her and Nelly at the VMA's nearly 20 years ago, confirming they are indeed together again.

She told the TODAY show: "This is where we first exchanged numbers. I was like, ‘Oh, this would be cute.’ Everything is lining up in the universe. So I’m happy.'"

The couple then went Instagram official when Nelly posted his lady on her birthday. He wrote in the caption: "One time for the birthday girl…. Such a beautiful, an incredible person inside and out and one of the hardest working women. I know.. @ashanti Enjoy your day Ma you look awesome!!!! Happy Birthday Love ya!!!!."
