The 'Welcome to Wrexham' docuseries has started to "rattle" the team's opposition, as clubs are desperate to be the villain in front of millions of future viewers.

That's according to Wrexham goalkeeper Mark Howard, an experienced professional that was signed by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney back in 2022. Howard came through the ranks at Arsenal in 2005 and has been in 13 dressing rooms over his 19-year career, but has noticed a clear difference since representing the Red Dragons.

Season three of Welcome to Wrexham will be released on May 2. With the series continuing to grow in popularity, it's becoming a bigger platform for players, staff, and even the opposition to make a name for themselves. Howard has speculated that rivals are distracted by the effects of the docuseries, and it's giving Wrexham an advantage.

"There is a lot from opposition players, staff and fans. We hear it and see it," Howard said to OLBG about rival backlash from their docuseries. "But we like it. We know it’s already in their heads, we know we have a slight edge on them as we have rattled them before the game starts.

"The comments are going on weekly. We find it a bit funny that we have got to people. It’s a motivational tool that people try to throw in our faces but we are accustomed to it. For this level it’s been a bit of a media circus but it’s something as players, and I will include the staff in that, that we are all used to.

"We have all embraced it. A lot of players use that against us. For the documentary style show, they all want to be the villain who ruins the episode of Welcome to Wrexham. A lot of the away teams want to ruin the party."

Although Wrexham can't win the league like they did last year, they have secured promotion to League One at the first time of asking. Wrexham ended their 15-year absence from the Football League after edging Notts County to the National League title and have now made it back-to-back promotions.

The Hollywood owners have made it clear that the Premier League is their aim, something that sounded wild when they were still in the fifth tier. As they're heading into the third tier, that goal suddenly doesn't seem too far away.

"Momentum is huge in football. Our target will be to continue to build. We won’t be making big predictions as that is not us," Howard added when speaking about their ambitions. "League One is a lot tougher and a bigger ask as there are a lot of big clubs with history.

"The levels get harder but we will try and continue to push on. We have been accustomed to winning. You never know what will happen. The owners have shown they will give the backing so it’s exciting times and who knows where it will take us."
