Taylor Swift and Matty Healy were friends for years before they hit the headlines with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it romance.
The Shake It Off hitmaker first met the 1975 frontman in 2014, when she attended the band’s gig in Los Angeles with her close friends Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding. Rumours swirled about their relationship when she was spotted wearing a 1975 t-shirt, while Matty rocked a shirt featuring Taylor’s 1989 album cover on stage during a gig.
Fast forward a few days, and in an interview, Matty revealed he would date her, and cryptically added: "Let's just see what happens."

They were seen getting cosy while on a date in NYC (Swifties Group Chat/Twitter)Just a few months later, the London-born singer dismissed rumours of a romance with the Cruel Summer hitmaker, and said they had simply "exchanged numbers" and "messaged each other occasionally." The duo maintained their friendship over the years, and Taylor began dating British actor Joe Alwyn, and in September 2022, Matty was linked once again to the Grammy-winning singer.

He shut down rumours of a collaboration on her album Midnights, before later clarifying that they had worked together on a track but it was never released. "We actually worked a bit on that but then the version of it never came out," he said in an interview with KROQ's Klein/Ally Show for Audacy's DTS Sound Space. Then, in January last year, Taylor made a surprise appearance at the 1975’s concert in London, performing her single Anti-Hero for the first time.

Dating rumours swirled yet again, but this time, they were fuelled by Matty’s continued appearance at her gigs, even spending time with Taylor’s friends Gigi Hadid, as well as her father Scott.
The couple were then spotted holding hands in New York while out at hotspot Casa Cipriani with Taylor’s songwriting partner Jack Antonoff, and photos posted on social media showed the lovebirds holding hands.
They enjoyed a string of dates while in New York together, and were even spotted partying at after a recording studio session with Kendrick Lamar, Florence Welch, Margaret Qualley and her then-fiancé Jack Antonoff. But just a few weeks later in June, it was reported the couple had parted ways, and it was a "casual" romance. "She had fun with him, but it was always casual. They are no longer romantically involved," a source told People.
