The source of the frustration appears to be a recent software update that began rolling out to Samsung devices earlier this month.

In a recent post on Reddit, one user asked, "Anyone noticed some kind of battery drain after One UI 6.1 update?"

They specified that their phone is a Galaxy S23 Ultra, and this happened after the April Sec Update.

They also shared some settings that their phone utilized such as 120hz, QHD+, adaptive brightness, adaptive charging, and light performance mode.

"I know these aren't the best settings to get better battery life, but it wasn't draining this fast (63% as I'm writing this) before the update," they said.

Since going live on Reddit, the thread quickly gained momentum, garnering dozens of upvotes and more than 60 replies.

"Oh hell yeah. S24 Ultra here. I used to get around 8% an hour down. Now it's more like 11-13% an hour down," one person said.

"Same usage patterns. A cell tower is a block away," they added.

"On a Snapdragon 8 gen 1 (S23 fe, in this case), it's horrendous," a second user remarked.

"Watching more than a few minutes of YouTube, it severely overheats and the battery drains like it had a leak," they added.

"It charges slower too since I updated. It's so bad," they continued.

"Yeah my phone is living on battery saver mode," a third user commented.

"I used to get about 14hrs of SOT on my S23 before needing to charge. Now I get probably 10-12," they added.

Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the issue or offer a solution.

However, we have shared some battery optimization tips below.

HOW TO PRESERVE SAMSUNG BATTERY LIFE

To increase battery life, charge only up to 80% at night, some experts recommend.

Also avoid fast charging when you can, as this could wear out your battery's life in the long run.

On top of this, users should avoid plugging and unplugging their devices in short amounts of time.

While your device is charging, you should avoid using it, especially for activities like playing games or watching videos.
