Our Yorkshire Farm star Reuben Owen has dished the dirt on what family life is like since his parents’ shock split.
The 20-year-old revealed mum Amanda and dad Clive – who share nine kids, including Reuben - are still civil to each other and “get on with whatever jobs need doing” at Ravenseat Farm, despite announcing they were separating at the end of 2022, which was also when the TV show that made them famous ended.
Though the exact reason for their fall out has not been publicly revealed, 69-year-old Clive – who is 20 years older than wife Amanda - surprised fans when he appeared to blame himself for the breakdown of his 21-year marriage. In an interview he admitted “behaving badly” and called out his “ranting, raving and drinking”.
Last year he told ITV’s Lorraine: "We filmed Our Yorkshire Farm, people loved it and it was an opportunity to make something as a family. That was what drove her [Amanda]. It was amazing and very successful, but I handled it very badly. It was such a change in our lives and I sadly made a right mess of things basically.”
Clive continued: “I had a massive part to play in the relationship ending. I was ranting and raving and drinking and carrying on. I don't know – jealousy. It seemed to eat away at me and I handled it badly and I behaved badly towards her. I should have been supportive.” Branding his wife a “remarkable woman”, Clive added: “We just got to the point where we couldn't be together anymore."
Amanda Owen insists there's 'no stress' as she opens up about 'separation'Amanda has previously said the former couple now “just get on with it” for the sake of the farm and their kids. She pointed out: “Look, if I was brilliant and I thought he was brilliant, then we wouldn’t have separated. But you know what, that’s not unique. It’s just how things are. But we have nine kids, and we just have to get on with it.”
Now Reuben, who is about to get his own TV show detailing his own life as a farmer in the Yorkshire Dales, has shared how the kids found out and what his relationship is like with his family now. He told MailOnline of the moment his parents sat them down to say they were splitting up and said: “Yeah, they spoke about it, but it’s not really a big deal between any of us. It’s quite simple really. Everyone gets along great. It’s not really changed for any of us, if you get me... Everyone makes it work. Beyond that, it’s not my business. All I want is for them to be happy. That is all that counts.”
Talking about the last time he saw them: “Mum and dad were both there, working away together, doing something with the cows. That’s how it is. Nothing has changed in that regard. They just get on with it. They are both the same really. They get on with whatever jobs need doing. Great role models, really brilliant. Farming away out in the rain and snow. They are really tough, the pair of them.”
It comes as Reuben is now set to follow in their footsteps in new Channel 5 series titled Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales, which will follow Reuben as he tries to grow his heavy plant machinery business with partner Sarah and pal Tommy. While viewers can spot Amanda and Clive on TV screens again soon when they return for spin-off show The Farm Next Door following them doing up a nearby property.
