Mikel Arteta has enjoyed an incredible ride in the title race this season.

Bukayo Saka is having another remarkable year. Gabriel Martinelli ’s pace has been hugely significant. William Saliba is one of the best defenders in Europe. And Declan Rice is up for Player of the Year gongs.

But who have been the unsung heroes whose contributions deserve recognition? Here’s three:

Jakub Kiwior

The Poland defender arrived in January 2023 and did not speak a word of English which made his transition into the starting XI a challenge. Kiwior, 24, played some minutes last season and put in good performances at centre half and is good on the ball.

‌But by January, there were stories - albeit misplaced - suggesting that he did not have a long term future at the club. However, Kiwior has been so impressive as a stand-in left back ahead of Oleksandr Zinchenko while he has been out injured and, while he might not be the inverted full back Arteta craves, he is a really solid performer who has grown in confidence.

Jorginho

He has been hugely impressive whenever he has played because he is experienced, another good character who is a good leader and is also happy to play when needed.

Jorginho has had to manage a few niggles and might not be available every week but his value as a squad member surely means that Arsenal will give him a new deal.

He can play alongside Declan Rice or be the midfield anchorman and do a solid job while also providing creative passes which can spring attacks. Chelsea fans rather mocked Arsenal for signing a player who had a reputation for sideways passes. But it is Arsenal fans who are arguably enjoying the last laugh.

Ben White

The Gunners full back is hardly unsung to Arsenal fans but his contribution sometimes needs more appreciation. His link-up and understanding with Bukayo Saka down Arsenal’s right is such a key part of Mikel Arteta’s attacking approach. Their interchange, overlaps and one-twos free up so much space.

But it is also about White turning provider as he set up two goals with assists against Brentford last weekend and has four in total. He also has two goals this season. He is quick, good on the ball and regularly steps into midfield to give Arsenal an extra dimension.
