VIRGIN Media O2 has revealed it will now buy your old PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch off you - here's how much you can get.

Savvy gamers with an old console gathering dust will be delighted to know they can get some hard cash for their old tech.

Virgin Media previously launched its O2 Recycle scheme - which pays cash for old phones directly into users' back accounts.

But the telecom giant has now revamped its program to include gaming consoles.

Under the updated scheme, Brits could pocket up to £280 depending on the console lurking beneath your TV.

Eligible consoles include PlayStation, Xbox, Oculus and Nintendo.

Once received, Virgin Media either refurbishes the gadgets for resale or recycles them.

In addition to consoles. MacBook owners can also cash in on their old laptops - with some fetching over £1,200.

The pay-out also extends to phone users.

A 128GB iPhone 12 could net you as much as £210 via O2 Recycle if it is in 'excellent' condition.

Naturally, if your device's condition falls foul of those standards, the price proposed will drop.

The move comes in a bid to contribute to the reduction of electronic waste sent to landfill.

Speaking about the update, Dana Haidan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Virgin Media O2 said: "We’ve powered up O2 Recycle to cover consoles and MacBooks, making it even easier for people to trade in their unwanted tech for cash and to protect the planet by saving their device from landfill.

"With almost four million devices recycled and £340 million paid out, O2 Recycle is leading the UK’s circular economy and giving tech a second life so it can be used again and again."

Research by Virgin Media 02 revealed that Brits have up to 15 million unused mobile phones and just under 3 million tablets dotted around their homes.

Executive Director from Recycle Your Electricals Scott Butler added: "We've all got that ‘drawer of doom’ stashed full of electricals, including cables, spare plugs, phones, and for some of us a stash of spare game consoles and accessories.

"Now's the time to cash in your old electricals."

But there are other ways to get extra cash for your old devices.

Competing phone recycling scheme Envirofone will cough up £260 for an iPhone 12.

It is recommended that you do some price comparison across a number of recycling schemes, including EE, Mazuma Mobile, WeBuyAnyPhone and CeX to achieve the highest sell.

Trade-in schemes

For those on the hunt for a fresh smartphone, trading in your old mobile is a tried and tested way to ensure you pay less.

Apple, for example, offers a trade-in service which promises to give you between £30 and £630 towards a new iPhone or other Apple device.

Elsewhere, Samsung Trade-In will give you money towards a new device but promises an 'instant' discount, meaning you don't have to wait to get credit.
