Punters have been told what Wetherspoons to avoid if they are looking for a cheap night out as the UK's most expensive branch has been revealed.
The branch in London is said to be so pricy that a pint of Corona or San Miguel costs a staggering £6.98, while a Leffe beer is a hefty £7.30. The Moon Under the Water, in Leicester Square, seems to be far more costly than the chain's other pubs across the country. However, branches including The Barrel Vault and Hamilton Hall also appear to be high-priced with them both charging £6.63 for Corona.
For those who still want to visit the Leicester Square branch, the cheapest alcoholic drink on the menu was a Bud Light for £4.85. It shows a huge difference to the David Macbeth Moir pub, Musselburgh, which is one of the cheapest Wetherspoons in the country to grab a pint - for just £2.58 - according to Pantry and Larder.
While a pint of Tennent's will cost you £3.39. If pints aren't your thing, a single rhubarb and ginger Edinburgh Gin at Moon Under the Water will set you back £7.78 - compared to the County Hotel, Kent where the same drink will cost you £2.35. This week a former staff member claimed workers get a free meal when they work more than seven hours. However, he said majority of the food is deep-fried or microwaved ahead of time.
Sharing his experience on Reddit, the former kitchen worker, who goes by the username u/Itsdarkinhere11, claimed: "The pizza is decent in my opinion, and the curries aren't bad for being microwaved. I'd avoid the steaks, I never ate one but always thought they looked awful."
Morrisons is slashing over 130 prices on its saver-products from todayThe former staff member, who reportedly worked at Wetherspoons for five years, said the burgers, steaks, paninis, and pizzas are all made as good as made "from scratch", while the fish is "battered fresh". Speaking about the burgers, he added: "The beef ones are cooked fresh, they're not the best but for the price, they're not bad. Gets a bit dicier when you start going for chicken or veggie or vegan in my opinion."
A spokesperson for Wetherspoons previously told the Mirror that "fish is freshly battered every day", while pizzas and paninis are both "made fresh to order". He explained that the "curries are made to bespoke Wetherspoon recipes and are delivered frozen and then heated in the microwave".
He added: "For the majority of the time, breakfasts are cooked to order. During some busy periods, in order to ensure customers are served promptly, some items are pre-cooked and held for a limited time. Our poached eggs are pre-poached to ensure the quality of the product is consistent for the customer."
