On Friday, March 8, young Kaylee was attacked near Hazelwood East High School. A fight broke out at around 2.30pm just a few blocks away from the school.

She climbed on top of Kaylee, repeatedly calling her a “b***h”, before ferociously smashing her head into the concrete multiple times. The 16-year-old was left twitching on the floor as fights broke off around her.
The other girl, who is believed to be 15 years old, was later taken into custody. Kaylee was left alone on the ground to convulse before EMTs arrived on the scene.
Kaylee Gain's injuries
Sarah Hall, a family friend who has set up a GoFundMe page for Kaylee's family has said the teen has been left with brain damage but that the full extent of her injuries won't be known until she has woken up.
She is currently at one of the local hospitals in Saint Louis with a skull fracture and frontal lobe damage. As of now, doctors say she's suffering from severe brain bleeding and swelling.
"She has major brain bleeding and swelling and is in critical condition. Kaylee is fighting hard to stay alive and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle for Kaylee and her family," Sarah wrote. She added: "We will not know the extent of the brain damage that has occurred until she wakes up but the path to recovery will be extremely hard on the family."
Who has been arrested for the attack on Kaylee?
One girl, who is reportedly 15 years old, has been arrested but police have not identified her. It's believed the girl was arrested after the incident and is still being held as prosecutors work on charging her.
Missouri's Attorney General Andrew Bailey has called for the teen to be tried as an adult. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: "This evil and complete disregard for human life has no place in Missouri, or anywhere. I am praying for the victim. The criminal should be charged and tried as an adult. If the victim dies, that offence should rise to a homicide."
But some opponents of Bailey say it should be a matter for juvenile courts to handle given the girl's age.
Democratic congressional candidate Wesley Bell, who is also a St. Louis County prosecutor, said the incident is "heartbreaking" but that ultimately, his office has no jurisdiction because the girl is 15.

Kaylee's parents have spoken out about the harrowing incident. On a second GoFundMe page set up by Kaylee's cousin, the parents said: "We are so grateful for the amazing medical staff who have been working tirelessly to give her the best possible chance at a full recovery."
