RANGERS booked their place in the 2024 Scottish Cup final with a 2-0 win over Hearts at Hampden.

But despite setting up a first Old Firm final with rivals Celtic for 22 years, it will be match to forget for Ibrox forward Fabio Silva.

Philippe Clement's men came into the showpiece occasion at the national stadium off the back of a torrid run of form by their standards under the Belgian boss so far.

Following this month's enthralling 3-3 Glasgow derby draw, the Light Blues suffered a shock 3-1 defeat in the Highlands against Ross County last week before a stalemate in the rearranged fixture with Dundee at Dens Park on Wednesday.

Therefore it was imperative that the Scottish Premiership giants secured the victory in Glasgow's south side to maintain their hopes of ending the campaign successfully - which could still culminate in a domestic treble.

Step forward Cyriel Dessers, whose double sealed a return to a Hampden final to continue Hearts' woeful record against Gers at the ground, having never beaten them there in their history.

And they could have returned to Edinburgh off the back of an even bigger defeat if fellow Ibrox front man Silva took his chance.

Surprisingly, Dessers squared the ball to his teammate when on a hattrick late in the second-half.

It looked a certain goal with the Portuguese having the goal at his mercy, but unbelievably he failed to pull the trigger, taking a tumble over the ball.

And fans could not handle it.

Taking to social media, one wrote: "Could argue Fabio Silva has been the best defender for Hearts today."

Another said: "Must be a strong wind there for Silva."

Meanwhile, a third asked: "What on earth is that from Fabio Silva? It’s so unselfish from Dessers on a hat-trick. All he needs to slide the ball into the back of the net, it’s rolled right in front of him and Silva has just dived onto the ball, it’s an astonishing miss. Can’t believe that’s not 3-0 Rangers."

Another asked: "Has the ball tackled him?"

Rangers will take on Brendan Rodgers Hoops on May 25, looking to win another trophy at Hampden after their win over Aberdeen in the League Cup in December.
