But online sleuths quickly unearthed her CV and found that she's in fact an experienced musical theatre professional.
The backlash played out on social media with one writing: "Come on, Sydnie Christmas is already a professional 'Sydnie Christmas has starred in Starlight Express in Bochum, Germany and Lazarus at London's King's Cross Theatre. And starred as Rizzo in a Grease theatre show. No Newbie then': 'Sydnie Christmas, Starlight Express. Just a quick Google search'.

When she isnt’ performing, Sydnee, who hails from Kent works as a receptionist, but she has also undertaken numerous jobs on the stage.
She has worked a performer on cruise hips including The Royal Caribbean International where she starred as Rizzo in the musical Grease.
Sydnie has also appeared at the Kings Cross Theatre in London, in the musical Lazarus, featuring the music of David Bowie, where she shared a photo of herself with Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson who came to see the show.
Back in 2019 she travelled to Germany to appear in a production of Starlight Express where she played Belle the Bar.
But even though she has reams of experience, it seems that Sydnie still hasn’t quite made it the main stages of the West End, which is the pinnacle for any musical theatre performer.
So if the bookies are correct and she does win the show, she will win the coveted prize of performing at the Royal Variety Awards in December and after that, no doubt London’s theatreland will come calling.
