Ally McCoist claims Scottish supporters ‘don’t give a monkey’s’ about Jeff Stelling's less than complimentary thoughts on Celtic and Rangers’ rivalry.

The Old Firm derby is one of the fiercest clashes both north and south of the border. The pair have already met on three occasions so far - and will go head-to-head next month in a clash that could decide the destination of the Scottish Premiership.

Meanwhile, they will also clash in the final of the Scottish Cup - the first time that they have clashed in the final at Hampden Park since 2002. Despite that mouthwatering matchup, former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling isn’t too excited.

He has claimed that English supporters are not too interested given the regularity that the two sides meet each other. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "Have they played each other a lot in the semi-finals? So that's why they're not getting to the final, because they're knocking each other out before then.

"For God's sake, every English football fan will be thinking 'Rangers against Celtic? There's a surprise!’ Why don't they just play each other every week? Forget the rest!"

Rangers legend McCoist did not take too kindly to those comments. He replied: "Jeff, I have to inform you that we up here don't give a monkey's what every English football fan thinks! Yesterday's game was a good one, Rangers vs Hearts.

"The one on Saturday, what a game by the way. Celtic-Aberdeen, a brilliant game to watch, finished 3-3, Celtic won on penalties. What a game of football."

Celtic just about squeezed over the line against Aberdeen. They were behind early on and turned the game around, only to concede a 90th-minute equaliser.

Matt O’Riley scored in extra-time, only for Aberdeen to draw level once again in the 119th minute. Ryan Duncan missed to put Celtic on the verge of a place in the final, only for former England goalkeeper Joe Hart to fail from the spot.

Killian Phillips then missed for Aberdeen once again to see Brendan Rodgers ’ team through to the final. Meanwhile, Rangers had a far more straight-forward route to the final.

Cyriel Dessers scored twice on Sunday to see off Hearts. Rangers will be aiming to lift the cup for the first time since 2022 as they come up against Celtic. Meanwhile, Celtic head into next month’s final as defending champions. The Hoops won 3-1 last season against Inverness.
