The devastated family of Kaylee Gain have released an update as the teenager bravely battles her injuries.

Through their lawyer Bryan M Kaemmerer, they shared that Kaylee's condition still remains unclear while she's unconscious. Kaylee's cruel ordeal saw her head smashed into a concrete floor near Hazelwood East High School in St Louis. The terrifying scene also showed another teenager wrestling her to the ground.

The other teen, believed to be 15 years old, has since been apprehended by the police, sparking calls for her to face charges as an adult. Her family though has sought to keep calm in the community and said they'll be seeking justice through the court system.

As Kaylee's family wait anxiously at her bedside, they added: "The full scope and extent of Kaylee's injuries and prognosis for recovery cannot be determined until, with God's grace, she regains consciousness, and the family asks that you continue to keep Kaylee in your thoughts and prayers as she fights to recover," they said through their attorney Bryan M Kaemmerer.

"Although the family would like justice to eventually be served through the legal system, their focus at this time is dedicated exclusively to Kaylee's recovery. The family also asks all members of the community at large to come together to denounce teen violence and buying as there have been far too many recent examples of teen violence that have resulted in significant injuries, and even deaths in some instances."

"Kaylee's parents want to make a special request to their fellow parents in the community to ask them to reinforce to their children that physical violence and bullying are never appropriate, and to emphasize to their children that lives of both the perpetrators of teen violence and the victims of violence can be permanently and forever changed as a result of violent incidents that last only a few minutes."

"Lastly, the family wants to emphasize that they do not want any retaliation of any kind to occur toward anyone that was either directly or indirectly involved in this incident."

Kaylee's heartbroken grandma Terry spoke out about the incident on social media, saying: "We are beyond devastated for her. Senseless act of violence."

A family friend who set up an online fundraiser for Kaylee said: "Kaylee is fighting hard to stay alive and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle for Kaylee and her family."

In a post sharing the GoFundMe page set up for Kaylee's recovery, which has raised more than £250,000 ($340,000), Ms Thompson slammed the 'assault,' calling it 'vicious.'

''We love her so much and hoping and praying for a full recovery but the road is long," the fundraiser said. Kaylee's 'shocked and devastated' parents have stayed by their daughter's side 'all day and night' since she was hospitalised and are 'hoping to bring her back to the Kaylee they know and love.'

Missouri Attorney-General Andrew Bailey has pleaded for the 15-year-old girl charged to be tried in an adult court instead of a juvenile if Kaylee dies. "The criminal should be charged and tried as an adult. If the victim dies, that offence should rise to a homicide. This evil and complete disregard for human life has no place in Missouri, or anywhere."

I am praying for the victim," Mr Bailey said. He also said the Hazelwood School District bears an "enormous amount of culpability" over Ms Gain's critical condition in part because it had pushed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives over student safety."

"In other words, [the schools] are more in favour of racial divisiveness than in having school resource officers on their campuses," Mr Bailey insisted. "So, what role did this radical divisive DEI indoctrination program play in preventing a police officer from being present and detecting this and/or from causing the racial divisiveness that may have motivated this fight?" he added.

The Hazelwood School District responded with a statement expressing their sadness over the incident: "It is a tragedy anytime children are hurt," the statement read before adding: "Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children."
