MATT Dufty has been rewarded for his blistering start to the season with a new two-year Warrington deal.

And boss Sam Burgess believes the full back can get even better.

Six tries in five Super League matches and a league leading 933 metres made have attracted rave reviews from his native Australia.

But the Wolves have moved to nail the 28-year-old down until 2026, with Burgess seeing an improvement coming.

He said: “I’d dare say Matt’s been the form player of the competition over the first five rounds. It was our main priority to re-sign him.

“We’re seeing what Matt can bring but I think he’s got plenty more to work on. It seems, though, he’s really enjoying his rugby.

“I watched a bit of the games last season and thought from afar they could utilise him better.

“We spoke about it in pre-season. I really enjoy his company. I think he’s a great bloke and I’ve found him easy to coach.

“I was always interested but it was in both of ours’ best interests for him to get a few games under his belt. We’re playing a different style that I think suits him.

“And I’ve had people from Australia ring me about him, I’ve had people who don’t know much about the game talking about him - he’s obviously doing something right.

“I’ve got to keep him grounded. People tell him how good he is, I’ve got to bring him back down to Earth.

“He’s a really intelligent bloke and he understands his position and responsibility in the team.

“And he’s really embraced the lifestyle in England. We’re starting to see the better side of Matt – there’s so much more in him, though.”

Papua New Guinea star Rodrick Tai will make his Warrington debut on Saturday’s Challenge Cup clash with London Broncos.

But England skipper George Williams and back rowers Ben Currie and Lachlan Fitzgibbon are set to miss out.
